When I first started painting portraits, someone commented how flat and two dimensional my work was. I felt annoyed by the criticism (artists can be very sensitive creatures,) but when I look back at this portrait now, I can see exactly what that person meant. It’s interesting how your work develops and changes over the years. None the less I feel I have captured a likeness of my son Justin and his cheeky personality when he was 10 years old.
